The gap
American defense hardware is stuck at two extremes. Exquisite systems are too expensive to risk. Cheap, expendable ones can't be trusted to matter. The middle goes unbuilt.
Hardware capable enough to trust on its own, and cheap enough to field in real numbers, and to lose a few without losing the mission. Specter is where we start.

Carbon fiber composite, laid up and finished in house. The first time the Specter has existed as a physical object rather than a render.
A 10 ft, turbine-powered demonstrator built on the same composite process as the subscale article. The step from a model to an aircraft that flies.
A rail launcher with an instrumented hold-back that measures thrust, and a bench mount for the first engine runs. Nothing flies before it has run on the ground.
